The official name Tanker Jacket was Jacket, Combat, Winter. It was introduced in 1941 as a set consisting of dungarees, a cap and the jacket around Armor tanks for the winter to equip. The Tanker Jacket was worn by all soldiers because of their functionality and the casual look. Straight officers were trying to get the tanker jackets because they were warmer, more casual, and more practical than what the U.S. Army had to offer in the early 1940s. So it did not take long until the "Tanker Jacket" was represented on all venues worldwide. After World War II, the design of the Tanker Jacket was often used as the basis for civilian jackets.
