OUR LEGACY

OUR LEGACY is an independent fashion brand from Stockholm, Sweden, which was founded in 2005 by Jockum Hallin, Cristopher Nying and Richardos Klarén. The label is known for applying custom-developed fabrics on signature shapes and creating clothes defined by subtle detailing with a strong emphasis on quality. The result is effortlessly stylish and ideal for people who appreciate minimalist design with character.

Over the years OUR LEGACY was able to accumulate a devoted following, thus establishing the role of a cult brand. Their collections include men’s and women’s ready-to-wear pieces, defined by a progressive exploration of seasonal themes through an elaborate attention to detail and repurposing of materials. Combining the familiar and irregular, OUR LEGACY exists in the junction in between, producing reworked yet recognizable silhouettes across recurring sub-categories.

SPRING/SUMMER 2022

OUR LEGACY’s Creative Director Christopher Nying likes to make us look at familiar objects in new ways. Drawing heavy inspiration from uniforms of all sorts, he focused on a re-imagination of the classic M15 jacket for OL Spring/Summer 2022 Collection.

In order to achieve a more dressed-up look, he went about mixing together an inventory of sartorial stereotypes. A policeman’s blue shirt might be paired with suit pants; a tuxedo jacket with cargos. His idea, as written in the program notes, was “imagining a child’s idea of the uniform of a teacher, of a banker, a parent going to dinner, an office worker commuting.”

Nying prefers a gentle kind of anarchy, and maybe this is exactly what makes OUR LEGACY collections seem so easy and directional at once. There are many subtle yet pleasing details throughout the Spring/Summer 2022 collection, including tone-on-tone tuxedo stripes on pants, a belt that looks like the waist of a pair of jeans, and corduroys with a digital jean-print. More conspicuous are the thigh-high gaiters and jeans that are split up the front and filled in with an insert, which seems like some sort of reference to OUR LEGACY’s older collections; which is to take things apart and build them back better.
