The 1983 501 is considered to be the final "vintage" 501, since it was the last to be made with Cone Mills red selvage 14 oz denim, before all production was switched over to the wide loom fabric. The 1980's 501 is also slim fit with boxy pockets. It was immortalized by Bruce Springsteen on the cover of his classic album Born in The USA. The production of this jean ended in 1985.
