ORGANIC DENIM FACTS

  • Organic cotton fibres generally have very similar shrinkage values to non-organic cotton fibres
  • Dry garments will shrink approx 5%, but the best is still to buy them rather fitted, wash them in water (as rarely as possible, pls see below) and take them on again while still damp. This will give a perfect fit, as they will stretch and adjust to the body (not in length of course)
  • There is no way to preserve the dry look totally, indigo has low fastness which is giving denim it's particular look
  • The best way to preserve "as much as possible" of the look is to use dry-cleaning. Pls keep in mind though, that dry-cleaning is not a very organic way of washing. After dry-clean, the colour will be slightly lighter, but still with a "white" veft (since there is no water, the indigo from the varp will not bleed on to the non-coloured veft)

HOW TO BE BOTH ECO-FRIENDLY AND GOOD LOOKING IN DENIM

In my personal opinion, jeans should be washed as rarely as possible, think of it rather as a jacket than regular trousers. I personally use dry jeans for minimum 100 days (effective wearing days) before washing them the first time. I often put them on a warm radiator (hot air passes through and takes any smell out) and also hang them outside to keep them decently fresh. When it's time, I wash them really hot (90 degrees) and stretch them in length while still wet. I also wear them while damp, to make them fit better. After the first wash, I wash them every 14-21 days (effective wearing days again).

This is not a general recommendation, but for those customers who does want a really nice worn effect, it's a very good way indeed. It's also more environmentally friendly, especially compared to dry-cleaning, and the organic styles will look magnificent.
